I wish I could offer the tool, but y'all must must must get some rechargeable electric ratchets and maybe a Hilti style impact tool/socket/wrench. Makes removing nutts and bolts take seconds instead of many minutes with a manual wrench or screwdriver/philips head... Honestly, doing the math, with 20, 30 40 nutts and bolts in a project, it makes a huge difference. It also helps with fatigue because you don't end up crunched into tight spaces as long undoing nutts and bolts. For me, being in odd and uncomfortable positions for a long time, when working on a project, contributes hugely and most to exhaustion. Jus say'n BTW. You two are wonderful. I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching a team work, overtime, as much as I do watching you two. You just have such amazing dispositions and attitudes and work so well together. It's enjoyable to witness.

More likely than not, you going to have to relocate a lot of the extra parts when the new engine is in place. They most likely will not fit back into the same places. It's coming along and your taking your time to not damage the old parts.

Just a suggestion have a look at anti seize products to use for an example on your engine stop button rather then sika flex. Another recommendation when fitting new rubber coolant hose smear a little bit of rubber grease on the inside of the hoses, makes it a lot easier to install and remove hoses.

What happened to the engine duca and roberta ? Looks like a heavy duty diesel , in which case provided spares are available a full rebuild would be more cost effective than replacement with a newer common rail diesel, eg yanmar as these motors are much lighter built, rev higher for thier rated hp output and use an engine management system, which means a lightning strike can disable it , new beta diesels from memory use a mechanical pump and injectors, in my opinion a better choice for a vessel that is going to be used off grid , usually the hp ratings are at a lower rpm and are usually built for heavy industrial ussage hence are built very robust

Duca, I’m an engineer, when we have parts that we know will be difficult to separate, we use something called a “Jacking bolt”. While the cover is off for the new engine, have a welder drill some extra holes between the regular holes, then weld steel nuts over the holes, IF you need to take off the hatch again screw new bolts into the welded nuts and they push against the cockpit floor and lift the cover, easy, but requires fitting while the cover is off. Cheers from England, DG.

Here is the reason why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUClRe5bj6g&t=1460s The company that built this boat doesn't exist anymore and we wanted a boat with a Brazilian flag and there is no option of a brand new one and to build it from scratch (buying a project) would cost a fortune and we would need to find a qualified labor and it would take years and years to be ready

6 maanden geleden
Eshootzi Scrs
Eshootzi Scrs

Basically because their engine while quite popular locally is not a common engine world wide, parts are expensive, hard to find in other countries. The trade off, their engine has significant resale value locally, much less elsewhere. Yanmar is very popular and parts readily available. Rebuilding the motor requires all the same steps and does incur nearly half the cost of new. That's my understanding, hope it helps.

@Odd Life Crafting if you can't find a bracker bar you can use a normal wrench or a torque wrench your not gonna use to tighten with, using a torque wrench to loosen bolts ruins the calibration and when you tighten a bolt it can snap it.

I think your interesting videos would be much easier, much quicker to produce and much easier to watch without that silent film era --or any era--music in between the narration or pieces to camera. Watching someone work without musical accompaniment, adds a sense of drama to what's on the screen. Music, especially that Keystone Cops chase music, tends to diminish the effort of the work you do and we are seeing. Sometimes silence is truly golden.

Great job Roberta and Duca. Did you consider to buy an electric motor to your boat? Why steel with a diesel because you could safe a lot of space in the boat? A big hug from Portugal

Hi. Here is one of the reasons we are not going to electric: https://cornellsailing.com/2020/12/electric-shock/ Other reason is we would have to have a huge battery bank and way more solar panels (which we don't have space)

Loving Duca’s “Road-worn” shirt with the authentic ventilation slits in the back. I hope the shirts for sale have the same “Duca-slits” in them? 🤔😁

In English, the piece of wood you used the get the hatch off, is called a wedge. It is 'wedge' shaped ie tapered. A shim is a spacer and therefore has parallel sides. They are often made of metal and used to accurately adjust something. You may have used them to level your container house.
